False Idols vs 5 Lokos
The False Idols are coming off winning their second Championship. The 5 Lokos made the playoffs last season but forfeited their playoff game to Bases Loaded. Two time MVP Brett Caladie is coming off a big tournament at MAW last weekend. He led the Dinos to the semifinals with his pitching and his bat. He hit a walkoff home run in pool play and then hit a game winning home run in the quarterfinals against ERL. The 5 Lokos made a splash one week before the season. They added Joey Dougher, Mikey Holloway and Zach Artim to the mix. The question is how much they will play. Their pitching depth is impressive with them being 5 to 6 pitchers deep on the Lokos alongside returning players Max Albee, Auggie George and James Cunard. Will the False Idols start off 2-0 or will the free agent acquisitions of
5 Lokos propel them past the Idols?
Prediction: False Idols sweep
Kings of the North vs The 570
The Kings lost to Scared Hitless in the BWBL Semifinals. The 570 is a combination of Diamond Dogs and BDE. The 570’s Alex Rodriguez hit .333 with 11 RBIs last season. George Moser hit .547 last year with seven home runs and 36 RBIs. This is a series where the Kings look to be the heavy favorite but could The 570 surprise everyone and pull off a victory?
Prediction: Kings sweep
Scared Hitless vs Roadkill *(Unofficial) Series of the Week*
Scared Hitless is coming off losing in the BWBL Championship Series. Roadkill made the postseason last year, losing to the Kings in the Play-In game. Roadkill is led by ace Teddy Kraus. He hit .442 with three home runs and 20 RBIs. On the mound, he went 2-2 with a 3.66 ERA and 26 strikeouts. Scared Hitless’s Josh Quick hit .246 with eight homers and 35 RBIs. Scared Hitless is looking to get back to the BWBL Championship Series. Roadkill is looking to get their first ever winning season. The last time these two played in 2022, Roadkill pulled off the victory on a walkoff to propel themselves to the postseason. Who will win in the Series of the Week?
Prediction: Scared Hitless sweep
Jenkins Owls vs Bases Loaded
The Owls pulled off a big victory in the BWBL Charity Classic over the False Lokos. Bases Loaded made the postseason last season but lost several key players in Gerald Johnson, Joey Dougher, Mikey Holloway and Rob Hess who is now on the Jenkins Owls. The Owls are looking to surprise the BWBL this season. In order for that to happen, they will need Rob Hess, who hit .545 with 14 homers and drove in 40. Steve Homza returns as Bases Loaded’s leading hitter. Can the Owls start off their inaugural season with a win or will Bases Loaded pull off a win?
Prediction: Owls sweep

Week One Predictions
by: John Kotsko
(posted Wednesday, June 17, 2020)
Well, it’s been quite a while since I’ve written anything. With the COVID-19 Pandemic shutting down almost everything sports related since March, it’s kinda nice to come back and play some Wiffle on Sunday afternoons and evening. So with the extended offseason, there were several moves in the offseason, with Special K dissolving and Joey Dougher picking up Steve Homza, Colin Pasone, Mark Belles and Zach Artim. They also brought in Chris Faulkner from Bases Loaded. The Junkies brought in Steve Dotzel and Jonathan Fernandes after a disappointing 2019 season. Defending Champion Balls Deep signed veteran James Ziobro and are bringing in Anthony and Brett’s cousin Stew Caladie after playing a game last season. So with all that being said, here are the Week 1 matchups.
Flying Pierogies vs Bad Meets Evil
Bad Meets Evil saw their season at the hands of Balls Deep in three games. Tom Hannon is coming back from an injury that he suffered in the Keystone Wiffle Tournament and forced him to miss the final two weeks of the season and the postseason. Hannon brought in Josh Quick from ECE to bolster their pitching staff and to help ace Curtis Wagner. The Pierogies are a combination of Special K and Team Backpack from last season. Dougher got most improved player last season. He added league MVP Zach Artim and veteran Mark Belles, as well as Steve Homza and Colin Pasone from Special K and Chris Faulkner from Bases Loaded. This is possibly the best series of the day and I look forward to watching it.
Prediction: Pierogies/BME split
Electric City Express vs Scared Hitless
The Express had probably one of the most unfortunate offseasons. With captain Dave Brigido losing four players to free agency. The Express are looking to Mike Cinti to be the ace of the staff but will need to develop a number 2 pitcher behind him if they want to contend for a playoff spot. Scared Hitless is led by captain Mikey Grebeck, who won the Championship last season with Balls Deep. He went and made some really good moves in the offseason by signing Brett Rooney and JJ Neely who will help their offense greatly. The question for Scared Hitless will be their pitching staff and in the BWBL, you will need to pitch to win games. This series will come down to what team will get the better pitching performances. I believe this series will be a good test on both sides and a sign of what is to come for the teams.
Prediction: Scared Hitless sweep
Balls Deep vs Bases Loaded
Balls Deep is coming off winning the 2019 BWBL Championship. They lost Steve Dotzel and Mikey Grebeck to free agency but they brought in some pieces to help replace them. They brought in Stew Caladie who will look to have an impactful rookie season and also brought in James Ziobro from Special K. The Caladie brothers are looking to have even better years in Year 2. Bases Loaded are coming off a tough 2019 where they won two games and are hoping to improve from last season. They have a bunch of vets in captain Kevin Sickle, Mike White and Kenny Kandrac. They also welcome back Mike Flynn to the mix after a few years off. Balls Deep is looking to start off their Championship defense with two victories but Bases Loaded is looking to rebound after a bad season last year.
Prediction: Balls Deep sweep

Welcome back for another season of BWBL Wiffle ball. This is the 16th season of the league and it's shaping up to be a good one. Gone are the two time defending champion Snack Shack. In their stead, Bad Meets Evil returns and several players from Snack Shack are looking for a three-peat. Several players switched teams throughout the offseason and those will be discussed in the predictions.
Special K vs Wiffleball Junkies
Special K improved their roster significantly in the offseason. Adding Fran George and James Ziobro to bolster their offense and pitching. The first series of the year looks to involve some really good pitching matchups.

Alex's Team lost quite a bit from last year with Sorber but added several players in Andy Peck, Jake Lukachik, Brandon Haydt, and Sean Hart to the mix. Signs would point to Alex's Team sweeping Backpack but Team Backpack finds a way to salvage a split against top teams.

BWBL Week One Predictions
By: John Kotsko and Jay Jay Neely
Hello there everyone, we have returned for another year of predictions. Quite a bit of turnover for this year. Several players changed teams, some have changed names and we have a return of an old team. With all that being said, here are our predictions for this week.
Saturday Crush vs Special K
Oh boy, what a match-up to start the year. Saturday Crush return almost everyone from last year's team that made the BWBL Championship series. Led by Andy Peck and Sean Hart, they will look to get back into the playoffs. Special K went and added some more firepower in the off-season after missing the playoffs in the final week of the season. They added Zach Artim to bolster their pitching rotation and look to have a really good 1-2 Punch with Colin Pasone. This series looks almost too close to call.
Prediction: Saturday Crush/Special K split
Westside Washout vs Full Count
The Westside Washout have returned to the BWBL after a five-year absence. Not much is known with the exception that Beau Reznak is their captain. Full Count made some interesting moves in bringing in veteran Josh Sorber to team up with MVP Alex Fuchylo.
Prediction: Full Count sweeps
Dougher's Team vs Electric City Express
Dougher's Team is looking to get back into the playoffs after missing in the final week of the season. They were very impressive last season as they played with only three players. Joey Dougher has stated that he has added more players to his roster. The Electric City Express are looking to improve from their two-win season as they added two promising players in Alex Chronowski and Josh Quick.
Prediction: Electric City Express sweeps
Chafing The Dream vs Snack Shack
New team, new name for team captain John Kotsko. Gone are several players who helped him get to the postseason two out of four years. However, CTD returns Cody Trevitz and will have several newcomers to help make them a competitive team. Snack Shack is coming off a BWBL Championship but lost ace Steve Dotzel when he decided to bring back the Bandits. They went out and added Curtis Wagner.
Prediction: Snack Shack sweeps
Backdoor Bandits vs Bases Loaded
The Bandits have returned for the first time since 2015. They are led by Dotzel who has lead several teams into the playoffs with his pitching and his bat. Returning after a few years off is Jake Lukachik who was a very productive for the Bandits. Loaded took one of the biggest hits of the off-season when they lost Chris Faulkner. However, they would go out and bring in Fran George who looks to be their ace. They also added former Blue Opal Alpacas Brett Rooney and Jonathan Fernandes.
Prediction: Bandits sweep

Championship Series Preview
by: John Kotsko and Jay Jay Neely
Pitching
Snack Shack's staff is led by Steve Dotzel and Bob Loftus. Dotzel went 4-1 with a 3.62 ERA and 31 strikeouts. Loftus went 6-0 with an ERA of 1 and 56 strikeouts. Sean Hart leads the Crush pitching staff, he went 6-4 with a 4.60 ERA and 78 strikeouts.
Edge: Snack Shack
Hitting
Snack Shack's hitting is ranked as one of the top hitting teams in the BWBL. Five players have averages of .400+ or higher. Rob Hess leads the team in average and home runs. Tom Hannon leads the team in RBIs with 44. Sean Hart is Crush's best hitter. He leads the team in average, home runs and RBIs. Not to be outdone, George Moser has been impressive with a .582 average with six home runs and 28 RBIs. Andy Peck is the all-time leader in hits in the BWBL.
Edge: Even
Overall
Snack Shack looks like the better team but I wouldn't underestimate Saturday Crush to say the least. Crush got here with a surprising sweep of the Gamecocks. Sean Hart pitched impressively as did George Moser. Snack Shack avenged an earlier loss to Bases Loaded by sweeping them to advance to the Championship series. A group of players from Snack Shack have ended up in second in the BWBL, will they get over the hump and take the BWBL Red Robin Cup or will Saturday Crush hoist the trophy for the fifth time?
Prediction: Snack Shack in 4

The Stretch Run
by: John Kotsko
With the NWLA Tournament past us, the big focus is now on the race for the five BWBL playoff spots. Now none of the teams are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention but you can easily say some teams logically aren't making it. This article will talk about all eight teams in the BWBL.
First, we'll discuss the American Division. Snack Shack is pretty much blowing away everyone away with their 11-1 record. Their core of BWBL veterans have helped them get to the best record. They went an astounding 7-1 against the National Division only losing to Bases Loaded. They are looking for the top seed and can clinch the division within the next few weeks.
Dougher's Team has had a rough start to the season, but the biggest issue the team has had is consistency of players coming to their games. Joey Dougher and Mikey Holloway are their two regulars and with their schedule being middle of the road, they'll need to sneak away with a victory where they won't be favored.
Special K had a rough start to the season but they do have two impressive victories over the Blue Opal Alpacas and Bases Loaded. They are a big long shot to make the postseason but they've had a really good season from Mark Belles and newcomer Colin Pasone has been fantastic as well.
Electric City Express looked like they could have been competitive from the scores of the first week but afterward, they haven't been too close since then. They are the only winless team in the BWBL and they hope they don't become the only team in BWBL History to go winless in a season.
Next, we have the National Division. This is possibly the most intriguing division this year. No one is out of this race and everyone in the division would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. Saturday Crush is currently leading the division but every week, it seems as though a new team is leading it. With all four teams facing off against each other in their final six games, only one team can emerge as the Division Champion.
Saturday Crush is the team everyone expected to be great. George Moser returned to give Crush a big bat and they also brought in Doug Novitski to complement Sean Hart. With all the firepower Crush added, you forget about the all-time leader in hits in Andy Peck who is the most consistent leadoff hitter in the BWBL. Sean Hart has put together a great season at the plate and on the mound. Crush has never missed the playoffs in their history and I don't believe that streak will end.
The Gamecocks are a new team this year captained by Alex Fuchylo after the Jagerbombers split up. The team has looked very good led by Derick Kearsh and Alex Fuchylo. Fuchylo has looked like the league MVP with his hitting and pitching. In order for the Gamecocks to get to the postseason, they'll need the rest of their lineup to produce behind them.
The Blue Opal Alpacas have had an interesting season. They started off 4-0 then lost 4 of their next five before sweeping the Electric City Express. They will be tested in their final three series of the year and team captain John Kotsko hopes they will be up for the challenge.
In the first two weeks of the season, I wouldn't have guessed Bases Loaded would be in the consideration for the postseason but the emergence of Chris Faulkner has given them that shot for the playoffs. He was able to hand Snack Shack their first loss of the season. They have been the league's hottest team throughout the month of June and the beginning of July, going 7-2 after starting off 0-4. They will have a chance to avenge the two early sweeps they had in the next two weeks.
Overall, the first half has been pretty interesting. Despite losing two teams early, the quality of play has been very good. I believe the playoffs can be great. Time will tell who will make the postseason. It shall be an interesting second half as playoff teams begin to emerge.
